The Huot Automatic Rifle was designed by Canadien machinist, Joseph Alphonse Huot, during World War I. The prototype rifle was in serious consideration to replace the Lewis light machine gun. Despite the Huot performing well in trials, Canadian and British armies could simply not justify replacing the Lewis with this prototype. Ultimately, Joseph Alphonse Huot underwent considerable amount of debt for the failed production (poor man!).
