The 9mm Walther Maschinenpistole was designed from the late 1950s to early 1960s and manufactured for nearly 20 years. Despite being a very well made sub-machine gun, the popularity of H&K's MP5 took attention away from the MPL, and the latter was not overly successful in the competitive market it had faced. German police units & the Mexican Navy were primary users of the Walther MPL.
