MG08 Animation Reel

Mount Rig Tech

Belt Rig Tech

This was an another thrilling side project to work on! I received one of the most detailed models to animate--thanks again to Timofej for sharing it with me! My buddy, 'Navaro' delivers once again (as usual) with the audio!

The Maschinengewehr 08 (MG08) became the standard machine gun of the Imperial German Army in World War I. Based on Hiram S. Maxim's 'Maxim Gun' of 1884, the weapon still included the toggle lock mechanism, which featured an iconic whipping motion of the bolt handle on the right side of the receiver upon firing. Being water-cooled to reduce overheating in continuous fire, the barrel was wrapped with a cylindrical metal "jacket" that housed nearly one gallon of water. While the mounted version became effective on the battlefield, it became apparent to troops that a more mobile and lighter version of the weapon was needed for traversing across the trenches, so the MG08/15 was born. This variant featured a pistol grip, stock, and bipod. The weapon was also converted into an anti-aircraft configuration with an air-cooled barrel jacket, which was coined the 'Zeppelin Gun.' The successful family of MG08 variants proved it was one of the catalysts for future machineguns to come in the early 20th century.
